The trooper was a real @#$%^ if you noticed, the plainclothes tried to comply, but the @#$%^ cop was pushing his buttons, he is the one who made it escalate, and look at the responding officers, they were all WHITE TOO!!!! Get my drift…..
hey every officer knows that when you pull over another officer you tell them to have a nice day that’s the end of it once the officer found out he was a cop it should have ended instaed he threw fuel on the fire you. in this job we tend to get those days whrere someone pisses you off so your bound to have a bad day which why i cut other officer break yea i’ll tell them to slow down or what not but there free to go plain and simple that uniformed officer was an ass
A-ha. Well I gotta say that using the F word all the way is a strange way of “trying to comply”.
>they were all WHITE TOO!!!!
>Get my drift…
Yep, I’m getting your drift. It’s a bunch of racists in uniform versus an innocent victim situation we got here. Somebody call ACLU and UN.
Hey, I am also a Cop,
who happens to be white, and the on duty Officer was a bit of a smart ass with the whole the county is covered up, guess you didnt know that was against the law either comment. One of those situations that got way out of control. Both of them need some retraining in verbal judo
Ummm… did we watch the same video? If I get stopped while carrying, I immediately inform the other officer I have a weapon and produce my commision card. Would the uniform have backed off at that? I don’t know, but he was definately provoked initially. The undercover was an ass, and was responded to as such.
AS crazy as this video is, both should have used Professional Courtesy and told each other to have a nice day. At what point do we as cops realize that we are out numbered, out gunned, over worked, and under paid. It’s us against the bad guys and a public that does not give a Damn. Let’s work together.
I’m not a cop, but I dreamed of becoming a cop when I was younger, but seeing all the crap you guys have to deal with ,and then being pursecuted for every move that you make, I’m glad that I took “The Other Test” and became I fireman. I respect the hell out of you guys and of what you do, but I don’t envy you one bit.
Now , Are you kidding me, the uc was a jerk from the start (black or white , still a jerk)You show professional courtesy until it REALLLLLLLY is not deserved and they were past that point. Dont give me this “he was giving him a hard time cause he was black” bullshit, he was giving him a hard time cause he was a JERKOFF and deserved it. And the trooper probably was going to let him go after treating him like the jerk he was.Cop or not you dont talk to a cop like that and grab your papers from him and call him a bitch ,then expect your professional courtesy.
I dont see what is wrong with checking the papers on a fellow officer when he is pulled over. Professional courtesy would say let him go after that with no hassel, this gentlemen that was pulled over acted hostile and was arrested, rightly so. The on duty cop was just doing his job. Doesn’t get any more complicated then that. Just my two cents
WTF!?!?! Both of those guys are bozos! The UC guy should have kept it cool bottom line. The working officer has to be the biggest moron. What cop gives another cop a ticket? Really? As cops are lives are always under the microscope and this happens!
Why in the hell does everyone cry “racist” when a black guy gets arrested??? They were both wrong, had nothing to do with race. All of this race sh*t is outta control. Why doesn’t anyone cry “racist” when a black guys makes racial comments about whites, or walks down the street in a “Black and proud” T-shirt??
I THINK THE UO GOT OUT OF HAND WITH THE TICKET SITUATION. I PULL OTHER OFFICERS OVER DAILY WORKING TRAFFIC AND ONCE I IDENTIFY THEIR POSITION IT’S GOODBYE FROM THERE. I HAVE NEVER ISSUED ANOTHER OFFICER A TICKECT BEFORE BECAUSE I MIGHT NEED THAT SAME OFFICER FOR MY BACK-UP ON A STOP OF IN THE LINE OF DUTY ONE DAY. (DEPUTY NELSON)
Man, that uniformed officer needs his ass kicked and badge taken away fast. If he did that sh*t up here in DC, he would have alienated himself so bad, that he could NEVER expect backup. He would then be forced to quit. GOOD RIDDANCE!!
Once again! the fukin cop pickin on da black man! He fukin told him he was an officer and showed him his badge why is he still harrasing him I said it once and ill say it again Fuk da police!!!
get off the racism issue. The plain clothes officer started the situation, if he would have not given any attitude and told him that he was a cop, it would have probably been over. Instead he said that, “I don’t want you fucking with me”. also what kind of cop carries his gun and doesn’t have his police ID on him? not in his truck!
IDIOT!!!
All you guys kind of piss me off. First of all this profesional courtesy crap is out of line. How in the hell can we as officers enforce the law on the public if we cannot obey it ourselves. If you break the law you deserve the same punishment as any other person would get. To say that an officer doing his job and enforcing the laws is out of line is just plain wrong. If you are petty enoough to not back up that same officer who wrote you a citation after you did something wrong you are the one who should not be on the job. We are all supposed to be on the same side but that side should also be the right side.
hay dj is right all the cops need to get along or the next time a chase cross to the ofther side of the city lines and they need help whats could happen then
The officer doing the traffic stop was orange county fl. s.o. the guy stopped was not undercover but, off duty city of miami police major. the section of highway is known drug trafficking area. the major felt he was wrongfully profiled because of his race.
first off, Pete, if you don’t mind, where does your info come from? 2nd, the off-duty officer should have just gone with the flow of the on-duty. i was off-duty last month, got pulled over, received a citation from my own department, and that’s life. i was speeding, the deputy did her job, end of story. if she hadn’t given me a ticket, that’d been fine, but not expected. the u.c should have accepted the same frame of mind, and dealt with it.
P.C.S.O. The story was all over the news after it happened. I’m ex l.e.o. I guess I’m old school, when I was on we had professional courtesy. That also applied to f.d. and e.m.s. I’m not taking sides on the issue, I wase’nt there. I know I never appreciated being second guessed. Just trying to clarify the facts as I know them. stay safe.
cops can go to hell. most are just power tripping retarded meatheads. i’m 21 and i already have a higher level of education than anyone in a police officer’s uniform. just because you’re a cop does NOT mean you’re incapable of breaking the law, and it most certainly does NOT mean you should be exempt from critical analysis by other peace officers. the plain clothed cop deserved what he got and all those who say the uniform should have walked away embody exactly what if wrong with the system, you hypocritical dicks.
I am a deputy and have seen the tape several times. if the deputy wanted respect then he should have returned some respect. You don’t grab papers from a officerand expect to treated kindly. Do you think the deputy would have been nice if somone would have done that to him. The deputy was wrong and I think the troopers did what they had to do, cop or no cop.
pete is correct it was in orange cnty and on sr 528. also if you watch news in orlando shortly after that incident this same uniformed deputy shot and killed a drug suspect who he thought had a gun. no gun wrong man. that man was black. this deputy has a history of racial profiling and it is documented.
this is plain stupidity on the plain clothed cop. if he’s had any training he should know how to approach another cop, definetly without the attitude. I just wonder what he would have done if he were approached the same way. especially after seeing his demeanor. hmmmmmmmmm.
I have an issue with Troopers. This issue is based on their lack of social skills and “by the book” overzealousness. The troopers in this state (Ohio), are equally over achievers who would write their own mothers. Ironically, they pride themselves on this? Why? Good job SUPER COP, you arrested a brother for a misdemeanor traffic offense. You are a real crime fighter. Maybe a healthy dose of whooopy with your wife would loosen you guys up a bit!
That type of behavior is unfortunately expected from the “Trooper” types. The troopers in Ohio are merely glorified traffic cops. If you had to spend your entire career noticing things such as a license tag being obstructed, you would get to the level of @$$hole this particular trooper has become.
Dear left wing liberal communist “allcopsarefags”. While you may be under the belief that your intellectual superiority is above and beyond that of a Peace Officer, you are sadly mistaken. The stereotype that used to preceed this profession is about 30 years outdated. Most officers now undergo training and education in human behavior, litigation, mediation, and sesitivity training beyond your world of waiting on tables part-time and hanging out in coffee shops complaining about the “man”. I am no fortune teller, but something tells me that you once got caught doing something you should not have been doing or your dislike of authority may be due to lack of daddy hugging you often enough? Anyway, thank you for the well put thoughts (despite your grammar errors Ie, Capatlization).
This race thing has gotten completely out of hand. HELLO, it is now 2007. Get over it. Move on. Black and white alike. If you have 50 crack rocks in your pocket, you have 50 crack rocks in your pocket. The color of the person wearing the pants is irrelavant. However, professional courtesy amidst fellow law enforcement officers is one of those un-written code of ethic type things which I do not expect any civilian person to fathom. I am convinced that anyone who electively pursues a law enforcment career, is a hero. The level of bravery required to do this job is immeasureable and I do not expect “copsarefags” to understand such a concept. Here “copsarefags”, if you and your hippie friend are sitting around smoking Clove cigarretts, and you have the only pack, you would surely offer one to a fellow hippie would you not? It’s the same concept, Cop for Cop, Hippie for Hippie.
As far as the person being stopped for Driving While Black (a.k.a. DWB), Bullshit. He was speeding. He was not holding his credentials out the window while speeding along. His attitude was somewhat justified because, like many other normal cops, once he displayed his ID to the trooper, the trooper should have simply advised him of his speed and requested that he slow it down. The fact that the trooper was using sarcasm during the stop was entirely innappropriate for a “TROOPER”. These are the same people who pride themselves on their level of professionalism. HA! The plain clothes guy had an absolute right to be pissed off. A warning should have been sufficient. THE END!
this whole thing got out of hand from what im seeing on the video with, “i obey the law “(pointing his finger). followed by ” i dont want you fucking with me”. who knows they were probably both having a bad day. but i dont care who says any different. no cop with any balls likes being approached in that manner. if the plain clothed cop would have got out with his police ID before making rude comments any normal cop deputy or trooper would have probably advised him why he was stopped and let him be on his way. even though you have a badge it does not put you above the law. but in the same manner a badge always treats another badge with respect.
If you break the law and get caught you have to face the consequenses. Some of you people still seem to have a problem with this concept. We are supposed to enforce the law equaly and without bias. This means you have the same penalty whether you are a dopper or a deputy. Yes, I would right my own mother a ticket if she broke the law. I am proud of the way I do my job. Eveyone else who does this job should also be proud, proud of the fact that we enforce the law not break it.
At least someone commenting on this has some sense. “Trooper” is the first one commenting that has stated the obvious:
“We are supposed to enforce the law equaly and without bias.”
It doesn’t matter that the UC was a cop. If he had broken the law, he should be treated like any other person on the street. End of discussion. One of the main reasons that so many citizens do not like the police is because they appear to look the other way when another officer commits a crime.
Something that police officers need to understand and take to heart is that because you enforce the law, you are expected to obey every aspect of the law, whether you like it or not. Until ALL police officers do this, they will continue to come under harsh criticism for anything that even appears suspect.
After all, how can you expect to be trusted to enforce the laws if you don’t follow the laws?
Well I see the world is still going round, and everyone still has different opinions, you know from reading what ive read I applaud “TROOPER”, However under no circumstances would I write my own mother a citation, unless she would have committed a felony. after all she is the one brought me ino this world, and “TROOPER”, Could you be the one cop in your state that has never give anyone a break. Boy if thats so it must really suck to be you. however I do think the off duty cop got exactly what he deserved, when he stated he had a gun on his side,(concealed), and no police I.D. in his wallet or hand, I think the policeman had every right to pull his weapon and order this man to lay down on the ground like every one else.
As far as cops writing cops, I can understand being wrote if the cop being stopped has an attitude such as this one did. but come on, cops help cops, lawyers help lawyers, criminals help criminals, etc etc etc!!!!!!. If cops start writing cops for minor violations, then your gonna have cops fighting cops, and personally I think these guys have enough stress put on them everyday without having to worry about another officer conspiring against him. Sure if he breaks the law in a serious way he should be wrote, but if any offduty policeman is stopped for a misdemeanor and he gets out realising he done wrong “WITHOUT ANY ATTITUDE” then I feel like he should be given a warning. and if he’s stopped again for the same offense, then I think he should be wrote because he had his warning.
I never said I would write an officer on something that I wouldn’t write someone else. If the offense warrants a warning I would give the officer one. Yes, I do write warnings some of the time. However, if it is a situation that I would normaly write a citation I would do the same even to another officer.
Well Trooper if thats the way you do your job thats the way you do it. and im sure you do it well, but other officers do show proffesional courtesy toward other officers and I really hope that dosen’t cease. I know wal-mart employees get discounts for working at wal-mart. they get this discount as a professional courtesy of being an employee at wal-mart. So it is favoritism in every job out here, and thats what goes on in the Real world.By the way I would love to see the price of gasoline go down. guess im just another opinion.
From the looks of the video, it really looks bad for the off duty cop, BUT perhaps if the officer had the violation on video it would clear this up. maybe the off duty cop had every reason to be pissed. failure to change lane is really a small violation, and more of a probable cause stop. “WHO KNOWS”.
I don’t know that I would correlate getting a dime off a can of beans at Wal-Mart with being able to break the law and get away with it, but that’s just my opinion. I didn’t take this job to get out of tickets, and don’t expect to now that I have the job.
Well I dont get a dime off, maybe I should complain that if I have to pay these prices the employees should too.Do I think they would stop this just cause I had a complaint. I seriously doubt it. Anyway here’s to you (”applaud”!). golf clap
I agree with the fact that the alleged off duty cop should have just rolled with it. Instead, he acted like an ass. At that point, he is no longer a cop. You should be treated as the “average Joe”. (like Paris Hilton was, finally). Even corrections officers know that you never screw with your own. You will get hurt in the end. Just be cool with the police . They will return the favor.
whats with all the racist stuff… for anyones information just because a black guy commits a crime and a white cop arrests him, its not a crime, and no im not talking about this video. Look at the statistics for Los Angeles, more than 80% of crimes are committed by African Americans. Doesnt mean that its racist, just means black people should stop committing crimes.
You talk about professional courtesy towards other cops, but no one has mentioned the fact that professional courtesy also means not putting your fellow officers, same department or not , in a position where they have to stop you in the public eye. This puts the officer conducting the stop in a position that could come back to haunt him, don’t you think? Also, I am of the opinion that respect is earned. You get what you give.
Dude….the guy was resisting…..he was being a fuckin idiot and got what he deserved….he is a cop he should have known what was going to happen if he resisted and then ran
I believe in professional courtesy without a doubt. I think the trooper is a real ass for ticketing a fellow officer. On the other hand, once he decided to be an ass, the off-duty should have complied, and prayed to god that trooper came through his beat, then treated him in kind. I’m a LEO in Northern California, and unless the offense was way out there, once I’ve I.D.’d someone as LE, there on their way, period. Both officers where sucked in by the others shity comments. Just bad all the way around
To those of you saying “you let another officer go…” etc. That’s called corruption. It’s a good way to lose your badge, and if you were under me, your next job would be wearing a paper hat and asking people if they wanted fries with that. Cops aren’t above the law, and acting like they are is the reason so many people have a hatred for the police.
Im from Miami and i know how cops act. The plain clothed officer missed up but the uniformed officers should have had a little more common sense, his a major. The truth is that officers still need more training in how to talk to people. Oh by the way Sandiego cop you are a racist any asshole that write what u wrote is.
like i said before SandiegoCop, U ARE A RACIST. I hope your proud of yourself, And then cops wonder why people shoot at their dumb asses. Good job killer, people like u ruin it for the other decent human beings and good officers out their.
The racist card had to be played, even though its all on camera, where is the racism? I didnt see any. What I saw was a non cooperative suspect with a suspected gun.For all of you that said let him go, say goodbye and leave, that is the attitude that has gotten us where we are today, officers thinking and acting like they are above the law. We are citizens just like the citizens we deal with every day. I still cant believe that the ticketing officer did anything wrong!
As a layperson, I can’t comment overly much on “professional courtesy” vs. “stickler for rules”.
I admit in my personality I’m more of a stickler for rules type. I have worked, for example, as a government bureaucrat in my province’s (I’m Canadian) health system. I made it my mission to do my job right every time.
That meant going the extra mile regardless of what my supervisors wanted and helping those who needed my help if it took extra time. Fortunately, my supervisors appreciated it far more than they objected to it.
It also meant, whether I was talking to an important businessperson, a politician, a fellow employee who I happened to be serving, or whatever, I collected all premiums owed to my province regardless of what their feelings were on the subject. Why? It was my job.
But that’s nothing compared to being a cop and I accept different people would do the job differently. Sp, accepting that different police officers do their job in unique ways, it was the responsibility of the person accused of violating the law to accept their ticket and contest it in court.
If he wanted to call the Trooper an asshole, so be it. But running, resisting?
Utter stupidity and FAR beyond anything the trooper did. “Sarcasm” if the Trooper was guilty of that does not justify the plain clothes cop committing arrestable crimes.
It was truly stupid.
So if they were both at fault (and I don’t acknowledge that; I think the ticketing officer was fine), the plain clothes officer was way more at fault.
Note: Check out the Permalink by my comment footer. It isn’t my blog, but it’s a popular blog by an Assistant District Attorney in California who offers a great forum to debate, in an intellectually rigorous way, the ideas of our day including often on law enforcement.
Thank you “Jack” and “Retired State”. It’s good to know that there are other guys out there doing this job that have the same level of respect for this job.
I think that both officers were wrong in the whole situation. The UC was upset, and the trooper was being and ass. Its not the whole black cop getting harrassed, it was a common traffic stop gone wrong. Both officers are to be blamed if you ask me
Glad to know cops understand the law is even for everyone, I don’t give a shit if you white pink purple or as black as fucking midnight, you screw up you get a ticket just like every one else! and plus the Trooper was on tape, giving the guy a golden hand shake could screw his career.
I am a LEO in MASS and I have to say. Wow. There is a lot of opinions here. Some a lot better than others. First of all, I right warnings all the time. So if I right a warning to a civilian, than I’m probably going to right one to another officer. Thats not corruption.
The Plainclothes officer was wrong. I’m just stunned that some other officers cant actually see that. I believe this man had an attitude from the start. He got out of that vehicle expecting a break. You dont grab at an officer like that and you dont yell “dont fuck with me”. Cops know that it is verbally escalating when stuff like that happens and red flags go up. This PC officer should have known better and should have known that the uniforms would act on those words.
Now let me also say that the uniform officer did not need to make the little comments he made about the stupid sticker and not knowing the law. But thats not enough for the PC officer to act like he did. It could have and should have been verbally worked out.
Personally, I don’t have a problem with cops letting one another off with minor traffic violations. What sickens me is when a bunch of them or even whole departments try to cover up far more serious crimes - shootings, assults and suchlike. I think police corruption has had its heyday but there are still occasional incidents making the news.
As for this vid’…. nobody comes out of it smelling of roses. They all embarrass themselves and make a laughing stock of their profession to the detriment of decent cops everywhere. The latter must be cringing in their boots (and cruisers) when they see this.
Since the “stars” of the show have attracted most of the comments, I’d like to draw attention to the cop on the right when they hold their cuffed fugative in front of the camera at the end. The way he strikes that smug pose…. just like a hunter posing with his kill… or worse… like one of those 1950’s KKK members parading their latest victim prior to lynching (for looking at his sister the wrong way). Sadly… I get the impression from watching this that those kind of sentiments provide some of the motivation for the arresting officers’ “dedication to duty” here.
that was fucking ridiculous u highway cops aint shit BITCH u think u have authority over a fucking sheriff PPPFT u crack me up u faggots o and by the way do u three strate up morons have u jobs still. well i hope not cause if any of your dumb asses ever pull me over im a spit in your bitch ass faces PIG!
i was just readding steves fucking bullshit comment, lik,e wat the fuck are you talking about man, (decent cops) wat the fuck is coming out of your mouth man, that is such a fucking joke every one of those highway patrol are fucking ass clowns, i hope they lost thier job and there pention that way they wont be able eat when they
I am a UC officer, and no longer have a clean cut look, and appear to be a piece of trash worth stopping. I’ve been stopped by Troopers and other city departments several times, and have never had a problem. I always inform the other officer that I am carrying and produce my creds. From there all one has to do is remain professional, leaving it up to the officer/trooper to determine if he’ll write a cite or not. The UC in this video played into the Troopers hand. They both acted like asses, and also made an ass of their agencies as well. Although, I must admit, when I worked traffic years ago, it would piss me off to see obvious equipment violations on other cops private vehicles (tint, def.exhaust, etc.). “Professional courtesy; hope for it, but never expect it.”
sorry it was a mistake ! ( my english is so bad :[)
i was trying to say that those specifics officiers (whites) are racist in my point of view!
and i dont care if withe people in this side of the ocean thinks so bad!
if anyones comes like the uniformed officer did as officer ur rite 2 take it bad!!!
but people thinks that there is a debat on the F word.tsssss..
i’m not against cops (i’m one of them!) but i hates when someone makes power abuse!!
hope i’ll never see you again.
THE OFFDUTY OFFICER’S ATTITUDE WAS THAT HE IS ABOVE THE LAW WHICH IS BULLSHIT. HE WAS ACTING LIKE PIECES OF SHIT THAT GET PULLED OVER AND RUN THEIR MOUTHS TO THE POLICE. DESERVED EVERYTHING THAT HE GOT.
Hey guys, it’s called a “professional courtesy” not a ” professional right.” If you get it, say “thanks” and have a nice day. If you don’t, obey the law next time. The off-duty cop was a serious ass. The job is dangerous enough without making it more so by being non-compliant.
If the undercover officer was truely a cop than he would know not from wrong and would not have been pulled over anyway. There is edvidence to clearly show he was not following the law.
to enforce the laws you must first obey the laws and take responsibility for your actions the correct way and Accept your mistake. For him he now has time to think about it.
there were a lot of good comments here; there were also some bad ones. i applaud the good and overlook the bad. all of us have been given some amount of latitude. exercising that is not corruption—it is being smart. i saw two guys, with guns, trying to control the situation. the simple fact is that the on-duty will have that control every time, even if he has to call for backup. it doesnt matter who is right, you play the hand you are dealt. to do that, you have to play it smart. cops are human. sometimes we have bad days, and sometimes we do stupid things. hopefully, we learn from it. everyone who has seen the clip and read the comments knows what happened. the question is this: how will we learn from this? i hope all who have read the comments will be able to use the information presented here to play it smart so as to live another day. then you can go out there and bring in the bad guy who threatens us all. peace, and may God bless us all.
this is unbelievable. ive never so much as questioned another officer at a stop never mind write thos bs tickets. dept war is all i have to say. his whole dept would get written every time theyre stopped from now on!
and yes i agree i think race definitely played a major role here. id be pissed too if i got stopped and written eqip viols.
There was additional footage to this incident that was not shown here. I saw it in its entirety on one of the cop shows. The official testimony of the Uniformed said he spotted the Explorer, across a 4 lane highway that had blocked its county id on the plates. So he intiated a t/s. In actuality, it was later brought out that many vehilces in that area heading northbound are profiled to be drug runners. That’s the fuel to the anger of the plain clothes who was a MAJOR in neighboring PD. Every one who works that are knows this. That’s not an excuse to either. But it accounts for the hostility.
I remember this case well. The Black guy was a high ranking officer, and the arresting officer “prick” pulled him over illegally. He said a portion of his license plate was covered and that it was illegal however he was lying and in fact he was warned many times by previous judges that he could not pull people over for that reason because it was not a violation. That stretch of highway is known for drug trafficking which is why he pulled the black guy over. In the end the black guy received all his back pay and the white guy got promoted. This is clearly a bad situation I recommend everyone see the full video which shows the cops searching the SUV like he is a criminal. Imagine what would have happened if this happened to Joe public. This is Bad Business.
i just think its funny that everytime anything happends to a minority its racism but if it happened to white person they got what was coming to them. but i have and idea if your breaking the law ” cop or not” get a punished some how!

Sure if he breaks the law in a serious way he should be wrote, but if any offduty policeman is stopped for a misdemeanor and he gets out realising he done wrong “WITHOUT ANY ATTITUDE” then I feel like he should be given a warning. and if he’s stopped again for the same offense, then I think he should be wrote because he had his warning.

The way he strikes that smug pose…. just like a hunter posing with his kill… or worse… like one of those 1950’s KKK members parading their latest victim prior to lynching (for looking at his sister the wrong way). to enforce the laws you must first obey the laws and take responsibility for your actions the correct way and Accept your mistake.
